![]() ![]() The time of 11:21 is approximate but is a pretty close upper bound. The upper timer is a stopwatch and the lower one is a UTC wall clock. For the other attempts, see Mega_Man_DOS_speedrun_grind_20180711_David_Fifield. This run is the best of several that I did trying to take advantage of the skip in Volt Man's stage. ![]() Keep doing this, advancing a frame at a time, until Mega Man's health suddenly drains, then press and release E to use the E Tank, then press and release S to return to the game. Imagine that you are Indiana Jones replacing the golden idol with a bag of sand. Press and hold the S key-you can hold it as long as you want-then in a smooth rolling motion raise your right hand off of the S key and lower your left hand onto the Esc. Now, to pause again on the next frame, it helps to know that the pause menu appears when you press the Esc key, but only disappears when you release a letter key (P, S, V, D). Allow the spark to hit you and you'll begin falling. Walk all the way to the left, then turn to face right. But it's not very hard to execute because you can pause-buffer it. The trick requires you to pause on the same frame (= iteration of the main game loop) in which you take full damage. The E Tank in Sonic Man's stage seems like it is out of reach, but there is an invisible ladder there. It would normally take four frames to fall completely through the death tiles, requiring four E Tanks, but when you take damage and stagger backward into the wall it only takes one. There is a row of death tiles just under the beginning of the stage that instantly deal full damage to Mega Man however if you pause on the same frame, you can use an E Tank and restore Mega Man's health. ![]() To the best of my knowledge, this run was the world record between -02, when kavoc beat it. In which I snipe the world record, despite mediocre play, because of a trick that skips almost all of Volt Man's stage. ![]()
